This summer we grew some delicious keeping squash. Let me tell you about them.

This is a German pumpkin that I do not have an official name for. The German people love squash and have a big squash festival every year in Ludwigsburg every fall. Look it up! Super cool. Anyway, needless to say I have been waiting to find a year to grow this one as it is personal sized and you can eat the skin as it cooks tender, especially boiled or pan fried as in a curry. It is delicious and the seeds are very fat so make good edible seeds.

Though this one is not yet in the catalogue, if you want it ask and we will send seeds along.
Our next showcase item is Baby Pam small pumpkins which make great decorations but are awesome pie pumpkins. Small and cute, they are easy to grow and the kids will love them.

Next we have another fantastic pumpkin for those who love to eat the seeds but don’t want to bother with the shell! These are called Lady Godiva and the are filled with green pumpkin seeds that do not have a husk. They are very productive so I have lots and you can grow them for yourself. This year as I have so many I will bring you a pumpkin and you can harvest the seeds yourself. Place your order and we will bring them to any of the seed sales we are going to in St. Albert, Calgary, Edmonton or Stony Plain. They are $4 each and you will be able to harvest up to a cup of seeds per fruit. They can also be grown in the garden next year if you like.

Did you know pumpkin seeds are a natural anti-parasitic? And squash itself is loaded with vitamins and minerals and very detoxing for the body. Here’s to mare pumpkin!
People around the world use pumpkin and squash interchangeably and cook extensively with them. They are nature’s great storage food. They do not need refrigeration and do better for longer kept at room temperature!
